A secondary school in Sydney has entered into lockdown while a staff member has sustained a small injury after a student allegedly brought a knife to the campus.
According to a New South Wales (NSW) Police Force statement obtained by The Epoch Times, emergency services arrived at the Chifley College Dunheved campus in the western suburb of St Marys at around 1:20 p.m. on May 9 to respond to the incident.
Upon arriving, the police found that a school staff member had suffered a small laceration while reportedly trying to confiscate the knife from the teenager.
“NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the staff member and have taken the child/teen to hospital for assessment,” the statement read.
“No students were injured during the incident.
“Inquiries continue into the incident.”
Meanwhile, Chifley College said in another statement that the school was under temporary lockdown, while staff and students were all safe.
“To our school community, we are currently in lockdown,” the statement read.
“Please be assured all students and staff are safe. More information will be provided shortly. Thank you.”
Chifley College was established in 2000 by incorporating five high schools built in the 1960s.
The Dunheved Campus was a junior campus that teaches students from grade 7 to grade 10.
The incident follows a series of stabbing attacks that rocked the country in the past month, raising concerns about safety among the public.
