EDMONTON—Magician Rod Balleau missed out on seeing the Chinese Spectacular last year, but he did not miss the chance this year.
"It was neat, the costumes and stuff, and different kind of dances, and kung fu, combined with the dance."
He was interviewed at the intermission and said the live orchestra was "excellent".
"Everything seems to be in synch [the dance and the music] and I think it'd be much better with the live orchestra than with the soundtrack," he said. The male dances and 'Nymphs of the Sea' impressed him. "I like the more guy ones of it, except for the water one, I like the water one, it was kind of girly but I liked it."
He said a woman in West Edmonton Mall gave him a pamphlet about the show. "Because I wanted to go last year but I ended up not doing it for some reason, I thought I'd go for it this year."
He said he was enjoying the show so far. "I thought it was quite good."
His friend Lucas Litka, a business student at Grant Mcewan College said he thought the show was "quite spectacular".
"I would have to say the costumes were definitely the highlight of the night," he said.
He said he was not normally a Chinese art fan but was quite entertained by the show.
"It was done excellently, excellently done," he said.
