ST. LOUIS, Missouri—Robert Dillard, a university student and singer was amongst the audience who attended the performance of the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular at the Touhill Performing Arts Center on Thursday evening May 1.
Dillard said that he loved the show. "I thought it was a really great show. I enjoyed the dancing and the singing. It was really creative. I have never seen a show like that before."
When asked what his favourite performance was he said, "All of them… the bowl dancers, the one where they are dancing with the bowls ['The Mongolian Bowl Dance']. It takes balance and grace."
Dillard, himself a singer who plays guitar and enjoys all types of music was fascinated with the erhu, a traditional two-stringed instrument (sometimes called the Chinese violin). "I was listening to the different sounds. I'm really fascinated with the violin [erhu]. Beautiful that two strings can make all those sounds."
He said he would definitely recommend the show to others. "Some friends came with me tonight, the ones who aren't here I will recommend the show to them. My mum [who] works in the Mayor's office invited us to the show. She heard about it from a friend at work."
When asked to describe the show in a few words Dillard said, "Energetic, creative and exciting. I thought it was great. It was great… amazing. I loved it."
Commenting on the performances that depicted Falun Gong's peaceful struggle in the face of persecution, Dillard said that he had heard about the persecution and that it was good that the performers could express themselves freely over here.
