SEATTLE—Washington State Lieutenant Governor Brad Owen was among the audience when Divine Performing Arts presented its last show during the two-day stop at Seattle's Paramount Theatre. He praised the show for being "very colorful, very graceful, and very indicative of the grace and style of the Chinese."
The Lt. Governor was impressed by one of the programs in which the performers elegantly combined acrobatics, gymnastic movements, along with the grace of traditional Chinese dance movements. "I like the way they incorporate both gymnastic style actions along with ballet style—the mix is quite fascinating."
His 4-year-old grandson, who came to watch the show with him, liked the drum performances.
Inspired by 5,000 years of Chinese history and traditional culture, Divine Performing Arts strives to create and revive the authentic culture of mankind. Upon completion of its world tour around Asia, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, the group came back to the United States to hold more performances.
The show was met with some resistance from the Chinese communist regime in some cities, with the most recent one in Calgary.
When asked about this, the Lt. Governor commented, "I suspect that is because of the little part about the Falun Gong and the part where they showed the Chinese government people beating up on people who were practicing meditation."
He continued, "The beautiful thing about America is that we don't prevent people from expressing their opinions, their preferences, and their art in whichever way they want to. It would be very nice if China [the Chinese communist regime] would allow people to express themselves freely."
"The unfortunate thing is that people are prevented from expressing themselves when the government disagrees."
