MUNICH, Germany—Audience members at the premiere of the Chinese Spectacular at Munich's Prince Regent Theatre on Friday were delighted with the classical Chinese cultural show.

Among them was Herlinde Hölze, a secretary in an architect's office.

"I find the show wonderful, I like it very much…very good," said Hölze, adding that she especially liked the piece, "Nymphs of the Sea."

"The program with the water nymphs impressed me the most, that was portrayed so wonderfully…but everything else as well. And the piece with the drummers was also very powerful. But every piece itself is an experience, I liked it very much."

Gudrun Weiss, a former legal assistant who also attended Friday's show, said she found the Spectacular was not superficial and by watching it one could learn about the history of China.

Her husband, Richard, was also fascinated by the Spectacular and believes that the show should be more widely available. He said he admired the courage of Falun Gong practitioners, "since they practically risk their lives for this movement."

Weiss was referring to an act in the Spectacular that depicts the persecution of Falun Gong in China. With its principles of Truth, Compassion and Tolerance, Falun Gong is rooted in ancient Chinese culture but the spiritual practice was outlawed by the Chinese communist regime in 1999.
