BUCHAREST, Romania—The audience at the Bucharest National Theater was treated to the Chinese Spectacular, a performance that first appeared in Romania on Monday, April 7, 2008.
The performers from Divine Performing Arts are traveling around the globe bring a true traditional Chinese cultural show to the world.
The Bucharest National Theater, the largest and most prestigious Romanian theater, was the best venue for a show that depicted scenes from China's 5,000-year history.
Lidia Banilescy, an engineer; Bogdan Kanev, a travel agent; Capatana Anriana, a chemical engineer; and her daughter, Capatana Georgiana, a veterinary medicine student, were among the audience watching the world-class show.
"I liked the show very much, and I'm very glad I came to see this show," said Banilescy.
She continued: "I liked the colors. I liked the [dancers'] movements and the atmosphere. I was very much impressed by the dance at the seaside ['Nymphs of the Sea'], the Mongolian dance with the cups ['Mongolian Bowl Dance'], and also the dances with the drums ['Drummers of the Tang Court' and 'Victory Drums'].
"I'm very glad to be here, and I have to thank my father's friend for suggesting this show. He told me that he was happy to have seen the show, and I'm very grateful he told me about it."
Bogdan Kanev wanted us to know how much he enjoyed the performance and said, "It's amazing! It's so interesting! It's great art, and there were many different scenes to enjoy. This show was very interesting. I liked it very much."
He had heard about the show from a friend, and decided that he had to see it, "My friend told me about the show. We decided to drive the six hours it took from Bulgaria to see the show. And, it was worth the trip."
When asked about his favorite show he said that it was 'The Risen Lotus Flower', "I liked the scene about the prisoners very much. All of them were very good and nice people. I had this strong feeling, and felt very strongly that they were suffering because of those bad guys. Maybe they are Communist Party members. I don't know how to express it and don't know the right name, but I felt very strongly [by what he saw]."
Georgiana Capatana said, "I think it [the show] was very beautiful and impressive, and the dancers were very good. My mom was very impressed with one of the dancers. Well, it was the young girl who was the lead in most of the scenes."
She continued, "It is difficult to chose a favorite. I think they are all good, and they dance very beautifully. Also, their costumes were very, very beautiful.
"Yes, we all got the message. It was a very deep message, and I hope everyone will remember the three words [Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance] that we should respect. These three words should be with us everyday."
The Capatanas will tell their friends about the show and suggest that they come and see the show while they can, "I'll talk about it to everyone, but not all are as passionate as I about seeing a Chinese cultural show."
