SYDNEY, Australia—"Splendid," said Hong Kong couple David and Sauking Yip after attending the opening night of the Chinese Spectacular at Sydney's famous harbourside Entertainment Centre.

Despite being of Chinese heritage, this was the first time the couple had seen a show like this and it made them feel very "passionate".

Both Mr and Mrs Yip enjoyed the drumming act ['Victory Drums'], as well as the male soloists [Hong Ming, tenor, and Qu Yue, baritone].

They described the opening scene 'Descendent of the Celestial Kings' as "splendid and magnificent".

'The scenery was just out of this world'

Fay, a retired teacher, and her friend Anne, a retired secretary, struggled to find the best words to describe the Spectacular after seeing it together at its debut performance in Sydney.

"Absolutely marvellous. The costuming was beautiful and the scenery was just out of this world," said Fay.

Anne could not agree more, adding that: "The dancing is really something else altogether! I've never seen anything like this before."

Both ladies appreciated the 3D backdrop, describing its connection with the dances as "amazing". When asked their opinion of the drums, they could not contain their excitement, with Fay proclaiming: "Fantastic! The drum dance is absolutely marvelous", and Anne intejected: "Marvellous!"

As they returned to watch the second half of the programme, both ladies announced in unison: "We'll enjoy the rest!"

'We love traditional Chinese music'

Mr Zhu is an erhu player who watched the Spectacular with his wife.

Both Mr and Mrs Zhu said that they felt really good about the show.

When asked which programme they like most, Mr Zhu replied: "We like classical Chinese dance the most and I really loved the erhu." "We love traditional Chinese music," Mrs Zhu said.

'The colours are exquisite'

Scott Middleton is a corporate salesman. He and his guest described the 3D background as being an interesting effect.

"It's wonderful," said his guest.

Mr Middleton said that the colours were "exquisite" and both he and his friend Ben appreciated the effort that had gone into the entire performance.
