MELBOURNE, Australia—The Melbourne premiere of the Divine Performing Arts 'Chinese Spectacular' in Melbourne's State Theatre left many audience members feeling both uplifted and informed in greater depth about Chinese culture.
Secondary school teacher Gina Gutierrez enjoyed the experience and found it unique.
"What I like about it particularly is the synchronization. I like the colour, the movement—I'm learning a little bit about the culture behind each of the acts. The grace and the beauty is lovely."
"The one thing I noticed with the female dancers is the use of their hands and their upper body; it is particularly unique, nothing like I've ever seen before" said Ms Gutierrez, adding that she would like to come back and see it again next year."
Seventeen-year-old Melbourne student Yianni Verardos described what he had learnt during the first Divine Performing Arts show.
"It really expanded my knowledge of Chinese culture. It really demonstrated a lot of facets of Chinese culture which I hadn't previously been aware of."
"I enjoyed all the musical solos, all the vocal solos, all the songs because I'm a musician myself, so I sympathise with the magnitude of the skill. I enjoyed the dancing as a whole - it reminded me a lot of the ballet but I thought it was more intrinsic than ballet. It was very enjoyable to watch."
"I enjoyed it very much. I felt that there were a lot of talented actors, and the choreography, the dances. It was amazing."
