ANTWERP—A rainbow of rippling silks and thundering drums announced the arrival of the Divine Performing Art's Chinese Spectacular to audience members at the Belgium premiere of the show Tuesday evening.

The performance, one of three scheduled in Belgium during its international tour, took place in Antwerp at the Stadsschouwburg Theatre and played to a packed house.

Ivo Deprez, an accountant from Brasschaat, attended the evening's performance to "taste the atmosphere" of Chinese traditional culture, he said.

"I found it wonderful, especially the costumes, and the deep voice of the second lady singer was awesome. The choreography of the artists and the colors of the costumes left an impression on me," he commented during intermission.

Deprez said he gained an understanding of the history and moral values of ancient China through the show and its traditional choreography, instruments and symbolism of China's age-old legends. He said he was unfamiliar with ancient Chinese culture prior to attending the Spectacular.

"I look forward to the second part," he said.

The Divine Performing Arts will present a performance again at the Stadsschouwburg Wednesday evening before continuing to Paris on Friday.
