LONDON—The Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular closed its three-day run at London's Royal Festival Hall to a rousing standing ovation from a captivated audience.

Professor of music Ian Hall, who attended the show with his wife, Radha Williams, said he thought the Spectacular "was most excellent, with an abundance of talent."

"There's a great deal of originality there although you lean heavily on Chinese structure. And I felt that as a structure, as an event it couldn't be better really," said Hall.

"It was incredibly well done really and I felt that the conductor should have been brought on for some special applause. He had to mask all those scores in sequential order and he was marvelous really. The combination between the drama and the music was very notable."

Hall was impressed by the blend of Chinese and western instruments in the 50-piece orchestra.

"Did you notice that the band was made up of both western and Chinese instruments? I think it's a most marvelous development. In fact it's predictable—we are very much a global world now really."

Williams, a philanthropist, spoke of the spiritual aspect of the Spectacular.

"We loved the spiritual side that was coming across as well. We're both very spiritual people and knowing that behind this production is a spiritual element is very uplifting because so few people really dwell on the spiritual now. It's all very mercenary and base so it's very good that you are doing that," she said.

The high tech, state of the art digital backdrops also impressed Williams.

"The drums at the end were very vibrant, and all the beautiful scenic backdrops evoking your historical culture and the beauty of your mother country [China] is absolutely fabulous."

"Both my wife and I thought the tolerance, forbearance, compassion element was just us. We obviously responded to that," said Hall.

"I'm so proud to have come. I loved it absolutely loved it," said Williams.
