FRANKFURT—Gabi and Gunter Zimmerman took in the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular Sunday evening at Frankfurt's Century Hall. The married couple, who used to work in television and visited China last year, said they found the Spectacular quite provocative.

"We had just been in China in October last year for a few weeks. We are thinking about many things we saw and experienced there," said Mr. Zimmerman, who used to work as a television journalist.

Mrs. Zimmerman, a former television production manager, mentioned that they know about the communist rule in mainland China, "We read books about the change and we know that China is not so free like other countries."

"Not even the year before the Olympic games," added her husband.

Mrs. Zimmerman continued, "Now, we didn't know that the show comes not from China but from the United States. This explains the scenes about Falun Gong and so on. The show is very, very professional and has good artists."

Mr. Zimmerman agreed, "No company coming from China now would be able to have these ideas. I think it's right."

While in China, "We wondered about Mao, he is the big boss in all of China everywhere. He is worse than our than our Mr Hitler."

"We noticed much of the culture," he said. "Many things were destroyed in the Cultural Revolution while many things are built up for [the sake of] tourism. Even the pagodas and such are built up as part of Peking, and the hutongs [ancient alleys] are only for tourism. Otherwise they would be destroyed."

"From October until now we've had so many things to think about. About people and what happened to the poor people, not the new rich people. It's very different," he said.

Performed by Divine Performing Arts on Tour, the Shen Yun Chinese Spectacular will play three shows in Frankfurt before continuing on to Berlin and Hamburg. For other shows in the Divine Performing Arts world tour, please visit: www.shenyun.eu
