DENVER—The curtain rose on the Divine Performing Arts Company's Chinese New Year Spectacular Friday evening for the first time in Denver at the prestigious Buell theater.

The opening night was a "great success," according to show organizers.

The audience seemed to agree.

"I was wonderful, it was beautiful," said Evelyn Bryant.

Evelyn and her daughter, Jan, were among the first audience to see the Chinese New Year Spectacular in Denver. Evelyn learned about the show from a TV advertisement. "It was exactly what I wanted to see—traditional Chinese culture," she said. "It was just so beautiful…it was the spiritual aspect that really spoke to me."

Many Coloradans were impressed by this Chinese cultural extravaganza.

Todd Riner, general manager of Saks Fifth Avenue in Denver enthusiastically said, "I am so excited about the culture…It was quite a Spectacular! It's like sensory overload! Very exciting!"

Chris Natzke, a sixth-degree black belt martial arts instructor at Family Martial Arts Center in Aurora, Colorado said, "You can see messages [in the show] that transcend cultures… I think that's really something special."

The Divine Performing Arts Company's Chinese New Year Spectacular will be performing two more shows, on Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., before moving on to Phoenix, Arizona and other major western U.S. cities.
