DARWIN—Prime Minister Kevin Rudd says the money pledged for the intervention into Northern Territory Indigenous communities will be paid in full.
Northern Territory Chief Minister Paul Henderson today met with Mr Rudd in Darwin keen to discuss whether the ALP will spend the full $1.3 billion the coalition had promised for the intervention.
Mr Henderson said he had been given that commitment by the new prime minister.
"Also the additional money will be quarantined from Grants Commission formulas, so it really is money additional to the Northern Territory," Mr Henderson told the ABC.
Mr Henderson said there would not be many changes to the intervention, "particularly the improvements in housing, education and health and also the policing aspects in the Northern Territory.
"So the commitment is there from the Prime Minister - a full review after 12 months and we will work together to strengthen what is working and really bring Indigenous people across the Northern Territory along with us."
Mr Rudd is today holding meetings with selected indigenous representatives, including the Northern and Central land councils.
