BOSTON - New Tang Dynasty's Chinese New Year Gala in Boston played to a full house last weekend. The audience, consisting of Westerners, Chinese and a wide variety of VIPs, came from all over New England to the Cutler Majestic Theatre to enjoy performances of both eastern and western style. It was an exciting night with many in the audience expressing the desire to see more.

The two performances were completely sold out the day before the Boston gala. At 2 o'clock on the afternoon of January 7, performers from North America, Europe, and Australia gathered in Massachusetts. Combining the beauty of traditional Chinese culture and the characteristics of Western art, the performers gave the audience a splendid New Year's gift. After the performance, one woman asked if anyone had a ticket for the next performance so she could see it again. When much of the audience left they expressed their wish to come back next year.

When one Rhode Island man was asked which performance he liked the most, he said, "They were all great." The golden dragon soaring over the stage to open the gala performance quickly became a favorite of the children in the audience. Many of the Chinese in the audience said they enjoyed the beautiful traditional garb.

Ms. Zhao Rulan, a professor of music from Harvard University expressed her enjoyment. She found that the musical composition in the first half of the performance was quite different than that of the latter half. She felt the music was amazing and deserves further reflection.

Many of the Westerners felt this was an outstanding and upright performance. Much of the audience expressed they had never seen such a performance, and would encourage their friends in other states to go see it as well. One Asian man from the audience said that he did not know how to judge if something had artistic value or not, but felt that after seeing the performance, he was very excited and happy.

Michael Zilembo from Merrimack, Massachusetts, liked the "Plum" performance the most. Since he is interested in Chinese culture, he loved the performance, exclaiming it surpassed his expectations. He said this was "authentic" Chinese culture.

According to NTD's gala planning coordinator Ms. Xie Peirong, the Boston audience did not actually see the entire gala performance. Because of timing and location, many performers were not able to make it to this gala, like the dancers from Taiwan Arts College and some Western performers. The next location for the gala is Manhattan's Radio City Music Hall. The large and turning stage, the three dimensional curtain, and top of the line equipment will certainly make the audience thoroughly satisfied.
