FLUSHING, New York City—Retired Adjunct Professor of English at Mercy College, author, and playwright, Alex La Perchia shared his views on the nature of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and the incidents in Flushing from the standpoint of Christianity. Perchia is the author of numerous books, including the recent Satan and the Saint: chronicles of the life of Saint Jean-Marie Baptiste Vianney.
Meeting for an interview on June 2 at the Service Center for Quitting the Chinese Communist Party in Flushing, Perchia, a soft-spoken man with thick reading glasses and a full beard, began by discussing why the CCP persecutes people of religious belief.
"As Karl Marx expressed in his Communist Manifesto, they consider religion the opiate of the people," said Perchia. "They feel that people who believe in God and who practice organized religion are being duped, they're superstitious, and that they're basically ignorant. This is the contempt that they have for people who are trying to lead moral lives."
Perchia broadened the insight into the persecutions of the CCP by discussing its use of violence and killing of other groups as a way to seize and maintain power. To discuss the point, Perchia made reference to the CCP's various movements in history, which many have compared to the violence and hatred against Falun Gong practitioners in Flushing for nearly two months.
"Under Mao Zedong, in the Cultural Revolution, the Great Leap Forward, they murdered all intellectuals, they murdered people who owned land, they murdered people who politically opposed them," said Perchia. "The truth of the matter is, this is a diabolical scheme to suppress any resistance so they chose innocent people."
"I think that these thugs, these hoodlums, who were attacking innocent people who were protesting [in Flushing], innocently, according to the laws of this nation and all democracies should be arrested and sent to prison," said Perchia.
CCP Incites Flushing Mobs
In light of the attacks in Flushing against Falun Gong practitioners, many Chinese have been withdrawing their membership from the CCP. Perchia commented on the movement: "You cannot stifle the desire to be free. That's what this all comes down to," said Perchia.
"So I see now, in this development, and I know that Falun Gong has attracted millions of followers. I see the hand of God working here. He is raising up his own army to wage spiritual warfare against the Chinese Communist Party."
Perchia also expressed his hope that people of all religions will come together against what the CCP has been doing.
"I believe the triumph is for people of all religions. Whether you're Christian, Buddhist, Muslim, or the Falun Gong practitioners, we all acknowledge God and we all adhere to his commandments, which basically come down to love of God and love of fellow man—just the antithesis of what atheistic communism represents, because its source is hell, Satan, and his minions," said Perchia.
