NEW YORK—Kids, you can all throw out your geometry and physics textbooks now. Three dimensions? Laughable. Madame Tussauds wax museum in Manhattan has come out with the city's first 4D theater, showing the film "Planet Earth: Shallow Seas."
Don't worry, 4D won't literally take you out of this world or transform the world you thought you knew into a fantasy land. The fourth "dimension" simply means that on top of seeing the film in 3D, you get physical effects that go along with the film. In the case of Madame Tussauds "Planet Earth: Shallow Seas," your seat might vibrate, or you might get squirted with water, tickled, or sprayed with scents.
Yesterday, more than 50 children became the first guests to see and experience "Planet Earth." Aside from the physical effects, the youngsters were greeted with exhilarating footage from the sea, with pieces that featured sea life from coral reefs to humpback whales to pygmy seahorses. As if all that wasn't enough, the audience donned 3D glasses to experience what it would be like to actually be underwater.
Madame Tussauds is located at 234 W. 42nd Street in Times Square. It is open every day of the year. This summer until Labor Day, Madame Tussauds is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Ticket prices range from $23 to $29.
