On June 1, the area around the Flushing Library in New York City continued to be the focus of attention. Falun Gong practitioners were meditating there quietly, some distributing newspapers and materials clarifying the truth, while the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) spies and their accomplices continued to surround and harass the practitioners from time to time. Meanwhile, New Yorkers continued to express support to Falun Gong practitioners in various ways.
Mr. Cao Jintao, a member of the American Civil Liberties Union, said in an interview with The Epoch Times, "Falun Gong has suffered persecution for eight or nine years. The CCP is very cruel. Basic freedom of belief should not be subjected to any violations." He stated, "An atheistic nation is very scary."
He pointed out that after hearing the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong In China (WOIPFG)'s voice recording of Peng Keyu (the Chinese Consul General who admitted, in a phone conversation, to organizing violent mob against Falun Gong in New York), he is more convinced that the Chinese Consulate planned the attacks in Flushing and that the Consulate hired or incited people who do not know the truth to resort to violence.
"The CCP wants to create an image of stability for the Olympics to gain international recognition for its illegal regime," Cao added. "It does not care about the lives of ordinary people at all.
Moreover, Cao said, in the wake of the disaster that cost so many lives, the CCP regime came forward to provide disaster relief, not only to shift people's attention from its crimes, but also to make people be thankful to it. Cao calls upon people to see through this trick and not to be deceived.
On the morning of June 1, an Epoch Times reporter saw that a group of pro-CCP people were attacking an Epoch Times newspaper distributor in front of the Flushing Library. The attackers continuously shouted obscenities loudly. A young man, annoyed by the attackers' violence, walked over to the distributor and asked for a copy of the newspaper.
The young man's name is Li Anjun. He is a pharmaceutical engineer now living in Long Island. He told an Epoch Times reporter that when he saw a group of people attacking one person, he felt it has gone too far. He said he went over to ask for a copy of the newspaper to show support to the newspaper distributor and to learn about what had happened.
"This is a free country. People should judge things based on their own knowledge," Said Li. "If one feels that this country is not good, he can leave and return to his own country. No one should attempt to create a violent revolution here, and no one has the right to attack others."
Flushing resident Mr. Yang came to the states more than three years ago from mainland China. On June 1, he came to Flushing to show his support to the Quitting the CCP Service Center. He said that he had seen Falun Gong practitioners holding banners in Flushing these days, some were elderly ladies, some were young, and some were teenagers. "They were all very peaceful," he said.
Yang said, "I am not against Falun Gong. Although I did not intend to particularly support them, I find I'm deeply touched by Falun Gong practitioners. Their peaceful perseverance moved my heart."
"You can choose not to believe in Falun Gong, but you should not insult those who do."
Yang also pointed out that people should reflect why early warnings of the Sichuan earthquake were not released. "Why are so many schools jelly-built projects? How to appease the parents who lost their children to collapsed buildings?" said Yang. "The Chinese communist regime should focus on these questions now, instead of spreading lies to slander Falun Gong or incite hatred toward Falun Gong practitioners."
