Canadian Officer Killed in Afghanistan

OTTAWA—A Canadian officer was killed in southern Afghanistan on Tuesday when his foot patrol came under enemy fire, military officials said.

He was the 84th soldier to die in Afghanistan since Ottawa sent troops to the country in late 2002. Canada has 2,500 soldiers in the southern city of Kandahar on a mission that is due to end in 2011.
