FLUSHING, New York City—A father and daughter, local residents, were interviewed by NTDTV reporters on Saturday at the scene of the arrest of Qiu Wei in Flushing. Qiu Wei is accused of attacking a Falun Gong practitioner, John Yu, with a metal car lock in Brooklyn.
The father, who identified himself by first name as Bruce, had this to say about Falun Gong, "I am a non-religious person, essentially I am an atheist," said Bruce. "But I will defend Falun Gong's rights to believe what they want to believe and practice as they see fit. Everyone should have the right to practice their belief without intimidation, coercion, or torture."
"It is well-established that the practice of Falun Gong is a health benefit. That is, people [become] healthier than the average person thanks to the physical practice and their mental discipline and beliefs."
Bruce's daughter Jackie, pointing at Qiu Wei, said, "He is taking advantage of the first amendment to spread lies and to intimidate Falun Gong [practitioners], saying that Falun Gong doesn't have the right to exist or to express their opinion. He says he can take advantage of the first amendment but he doesn't want to let Falun Gong use the first amendment. So there's a little bit of contradiction there, and it just needs to be pointed out."
"Falun Gong has the right to express themselves and their beliefs without being physically assaulted by members of the Communist Party. It is one thing to have peaceful displays or to educate people but that is not what they [the Communist Party] are doing! They are physically assaulting Falun Gong [practitioners]."
Both Bruce and Jackie commented on the practice of taking organs from living Falun Gong practitioners in China, which has been documented by third-party investigators.
"It is enough that in China they [the Communist Party] have harvested their organs, and suppressing them and killing them, but here we cannot tolerate this," said Jackie.
"I think it is horribly ironic that the Communist Party would actually prey upon these people," said Bruce. The organ harvesting is horrendous and inhuman, you can't do that to someone for simply expressing their point of view."
"In New York City we can never tolerate this!" said Bruce.
"The world needs freedom of expression—not totalitarian control!"
