FLUSHING, New York City—Cai Donghui, a 60 year old man, has been distributing The Epoch Times newspaper at various street corners of Flushing, New York, for over three weeks. Day and night, rain or shine, regardless of the abusive language and attacks, Cai has been persistent.
Cai started doing this after the Chinese Consulate incited mobs to besiege and attack the volunteers of the "Quit the CCP" Service Center in front of the Queens Library in Flushing on May 17. He said, "I want to do my best to bring the truth and facts to those who have been deceived by the CCP."
Mr. Cai Donghui was once a CCP cadre in the Chinese regime. He has practiced Falun Gong for 11 years.
On June 7, as usual, Cai was distributing newspapers at a corner. A group of people approached him and scolded him viciously. Cai's heart was tied in knots.
He said, "I am old. Throughout my lifetime, I have always been respected and never experienced such an insult. The humiliation made me very uncomfortable. It's unspeakable."
Among the group of people was a man who behaved like the leader of the gang. After realizing that Mr. Cai wasn't moved by his insults, he threw his cigarette butt on the ground and stepped on it repeatedly.
Mr. Cai, without a word, bent down quietly to pick up the cigarette butt, walked slowly to a nearby trash bin, and put it into the trash bin.
CCP Incites Flushing Mobs
The man's face twitched a little, intending to talk, and yet, quietly moving to the side of the crowd.
Mr. Cai said to the man in a calm voice, "Falun Gong is a group of people who cultivate, have no interest in politics or authority. All we have been promoting is to stop the persecution of our practitioners in China and help people to learn the truth. It is real that heaven will eliminate the CCP. Many prophecies in the East and West, ancient and modern, have predicted this."
Cai spoke, "It's like a building about to collapse. People inside of the building aren't aware of it. Yet, people on the outside keep warning them and asking them to get out. The people inside of the building don't want the building to collapse, and therefore, they wouldn't hear it, they don't believe it and they refuse to listen."
"Those who believe it will be rewarded. There's nothing we can do for those who won't believe it." Cai continued, "I wish you to be rewarded with the good. Hurry and renounce the CCP."
As Cai was speaking, the man's face turned from calm to serious. The original vicious and cynical expression was gone.
At last, the man said to Cai, "Thank you. I will think about it seriously."
Falun Gong Practitioners Do Not Hit Back When Attacked
Cai said, "It is a fundamental requirement for a Falun Gong practitioner not to hit back when attacked, and not to talk back when insulted."
"Throughout this incident, I kept reminding myself as a practitioner to be tolerant no matter how hurt I feel." He continued, "Why am I here? I am here to bring the truth to those who have been deceived by the CCP. If I engage myself into the argument and the fight, how could I fulfill my duty to clarify the truth?"
Cai believes in the power of "truth, compassion, and tolerance." The change observed in the man made him further realize that the power of "Truth, compassion, and tolerance are changing people, and the Flushing area."
