May 3,was a typical Saturday evening in Cleveland, OH; typical for all but the roughly 2,400 people at the State Theater in Playhouse Square.
Why? Because tonight was the first time that Divine Performing Arts' Chinese Spectacular had come to town.
When asked what she thought about the show, Lori Marthel, a nuclear medicine technician from Ashland, Ohio quickly exclaimed, "I loved it! I've never seen anything quite like this. It was different, and I was really, really impressed with everything, especially the gadgets. I thoroughly enjoyed the dances involving drums and the Mongolian Chopstick dance but my favorite was the Teacup dance! I really liked the dancers' use of gadgets and props."
Kim Croons, a retailer from Painesville, Ohio said that, "The show was very beautiful! Very spectacular! The costumes were very sparkly and bright, the colors just stood out as well, it was amazing!"
Lydia, a 5 year old from Painesville, OH had a very special night, as this was the first theater performance she had ever attended. She had seen a poster at a mall for the Spectacular and her mother decided that visually it would be a great show for a first-timer to attend. Her mother and friends said that, "We made a really good choice letting her pick this show."
When asked about her feelings on the show Lydia said, "It was great! I liked the dance with the pink long sleeves! The costumes were cool too!"
The Chinese Spectacular features Chinese dance, martial arts, and opera. It showcases 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture with myths and legends from the various dynasties, thus giving attendees a rich and meaningful cultural experience that has touched the hearts of hundreds of thousands of people. The show also features the world's largest backdrop, similar to an IMAX screen, which interacts with the entire show, thus providing a truly unique experience.
