EDMONTON—“It’s a cultural extravaganza for me,” said architect Ed Gooch after seeing the finale of the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular at Edmonton’s Jubilee Auditorium on Wednesday.

“I liked how it was so much different than anything I’ve ever seen. That’s what I think I liked the most about it. It’s a different form of entertainment for me that I’ve never seen. Well done, well-choreographed. Very athletic, but at the same time like ballet, so it was beautiful,” said Gooch.

Gooch brought his friend, an engineer from Shanghai, with him to see the show.

“I love it...it is bringing china’s culture to the stage. It’s great. I just love it, the way it’s building Chinese cultural spirit. I love it.” said the friend.

Gooch also said that he appreciated the show’s artistic talent and technology.

“It’s just that it was very well choreographed, very athletic. I loved the music. I like how it was brought together and the little story-lines were nice.”

“I liked the screen in the background. That helped with the different singers and stuff. And the dry ice at the beginning- that was a nice touch, that cloud of dry ice.”

“It’s just a unique type of evening for me. It’s just a nice presentation of Chinese type of dance, and theatre and song. It was just a nice evening,” he said.

In its 2008 tour, the New York-based Divine Performing Arts staged 220 shows in over 14 countries on four continents, reaching a total live audience of about 650,000.
