HUNTSVILLE, Alabama—Loretta Spencer, Mayor of Huntsville, was delighted with the Chinese Spectacular after seeing the unique cultural show at the Von Braun Concert Hall on Tuesday.

"First of all, the talent is unbelievable," said Spencer.

"The hard work that it's gone into all the numbers is fantastic. We're just so impressed with the beautiful evening. Just feel like Huntsville is so fortunate to be able to have you bring it here for us. Not only that, to be able to bring the cultures of the two countries is extremely important, because we are an international city."

Spencer commented on the traditional value inherent in the show and the skill of the dancers.

"I think the dedication to [China] is very important. And to see it come out of young people's interpretation of the dance is really very good. To see the dance, and to see the young men and women in the show is really delightful."

The mayor added that the mermaids in Nymphs of the Sea were "unbelievable. Their fan motions to show the waves of the water; that was tremendous of them to work so hard and so coordinated."

Spencer was also impressed by how a translation of the songs was transposed onto the backdrop. Sopranos Jiang Min and Bai Xue, tenor Yang Jiangsheng and baritone Guan Guimin, renowned opera singers from China, all perform solos in the Spectacular.

"What I loved is the interpretation when the opera singers were doing their music to see the language and to see the interpretation of what they're singing is very important to me because that tells me more about the culture and the hardships that people go through to express themselves."

In a greeting letter to the performers, Spencer said she was "very pleased" to welcome the Spectacular to Huntsville.

"This Spectacular is sure to delight everyone with the gorgeous costumes, outstanding choreography and amazing talent that will be on stage tonight in the VBC's Concert Hall."
