EDMONTON—The Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular premiered to a delighted audience at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium in Edmonton on Monday evening.
Ms. Li, who just emigrated from China seven months ago and works at Status of Women Canada, found she was "very surprised" by the show.
"It's a high level performance, in particular those classical and instrumental performances. I did not expect to watch such a performance in Canada," she said.
"DPA's performances are quite effective for spreading Chinese culture. It's a good window for foreigners to understand Chinese culture. I asked westerner friends next to me — they were all deeply impressed. They were really amazed that the Chinese culture is so broad and profound. And I feel proud they think that way."
Ms. Li was invited to the show by her boss who also attended along with some colleagues. She mentioned some of her favourite pieces.
"I like the solo instrument performance of the erhu, Ladies of the Manchu Court, Water Sleeves,' and the fans dancing [Lightness and Grace]. I hope that I can have more chances to watch similar performances in the future."
The Divine Performing Arts international tour will end after the final Edmonton show on Wednesday night. During the tour, the performance company staged 220 shows in over 14 countries on four continents, reaching a total live audience of about 650,000.
