EDMONTON—Divine Performing Arts presented their renowned Chinese Spectacular Tuesday evening to a delighted Edmonton audience at Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium.
“I found it very different from anything I had seen [before] and very enjoyable,” said Isabel English, a retired government employee.
“I didn’t know if I was expecting more dancing or more like ballet and its sort of a cross between it. The balance is great.”
English remarked that her favorite performance was the ‘The Mongolian Bowl Dance’. She also enjoyed the costuming and the show’s high-tech digital backdrop.
“I liked the costumes and they just were so graceful. The backdrop is beautiful, it’s just lovely.”
English, who came to see the show with her great-granddaughter, also noted that the show’s message helped her understand the current repressive climate that faces Mainland China.
“It’s very different from other shows you see. I thought it was good myself. It showed the repression the people have lived under. I think it brings it more home than what we realized.”
“You hear of these things but when you see it acted out you realize just how terrifying it would be and how very repressive.”
