CALGARY–Linda Hackinen, an office receptionist in Calgary, took in the Chinese Spectacular Thursday night at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium in Calgary.

Hackinen said she thought the Spectacular displayed a "gentleness" that came through in the "vibrant colours, the flow of the costumes" and the movements of the dancers.

"They seem to glide right across the floor effortlessly," she said.

"I loved the colours and I was quite taken back by the Opera singers – the soprano, the baritone — I loved the baritone."

Hackinen said the dance, Lady of the Moon, was "especially beautiful."

Touched by the message of truth, compassion and tolerance in the show, Linda said she thought the piece, The Risen Lotus Flower, depicting abuses against the Falun Gong spiritual group in China, was beautifully done.

"I've been to other Chinese shows but the first time to this one and I was surprised that they had the message of the Falun Gong here tonight. I didn't know that they did. But I believe it [was] a very beautiful message...a message of peace."

The show was "Spectacular, colourful and uplifting," she said.

After traveling to over 60 countries on four continents, the New York-based Divine Performing Arts will wind up the Canadian leg of its 2008 international with three shows Edmonton from May 5-7.
