Editor's notes: Upon learning of the assault of Falun Gong practitioners by the Chinese Communist Party's "patriotic" mobs in Flushing, New York, Ms. Liu, a Chinese Ph.D. student in the U.K., felt her heart weeping. She posted the following commentary in the Support and Commentary column of the Chinese edition of The Epoch Times quitting the CCP Web site on May 27, 2008.
I am not a Falun Gong practitioner nor do I necessarily agree with all the viewpoints expressed in Falun Gong. However, I deeply admire and feel greatly thankful to every Falun Gong practitioner who contributes to bringing a beautiful future to all Chinese people, without seeking any public attention.
I am a Chinese Ph.D. student in the U.K. When compared to all the compassionate and kind-hearted Falun Gong practitioners, I feel very ashamed. There is such a huge gap between you and me in terms of morality and courage.
Upon learning of the shameless "patriotic" mobs kicking and beating elderly Falun Gong practitioners in Flushing, making unbridled attacks to threaten and humiliate them, my heart wept. My dear Falun Gong practitioners, what incredible suffering you have endured for us—a group of cowardly Chinese who do not have the courage to perform our part of the responsibility!
In the long period of five thousand years, Chinese people have never escaped from the shackles of autocratic enslavement—we have not even expected to escape. The majority of Chinese do not mind being fed in a pigpen, wantonly squeezed and exploited; they simply wish to be able to eat and sleep more comfortably in this pigpen.
When seeing the reckless slaughter of others, what is on their mind is not that they should fight for others and for their own rights—because everyone is in the same boat—but how to aid the tyrant to do evil and further oppress the victims. They continue to fortify and strengthen this dark and nasty pigpen, again and again.
Chinese people should have freedom, dignity, and human rights. However, in full view of the extremely evil Chinese Communist Party, there is a price we need to pay in order to achieve the transition from "pig's rights" to human rights.
Although the majority of Chinese do not want to fight for their rights and for the rights of their fellow citizens, although they do not want to fight for freedom and dignity, Falun Gong practitioners are speaking out for these cowardly Chinese and fighting for them. They are paying a huge price, a price they do not have an obligation to pay.
I am not brave enough; I do not have the courage to strive and to take on this mission like Falun Gong practitioners. However, deep in my heart, I know what righteousness is; I know what Falun Gong practitioners have done for us. Although I cannot do anything about it, I would never help the tyrant to do evil or consider the evil as my parent.
I hope Falun Gong practitioners will accept my deep respect and gratefulness from a Chinese non-practitioner. I thank you and ask you to take good care of yourselves, because you are the spine, the conscience, and the hope of China. Thank you.
Long live Falun Gong!
