CALGARY—Dancer Kirstin Jakobson was able to appreciate the beauty and skill that she saw in Friday evening's performance of the Divine Performing Arts' Chinese Spectacular at the Southern Alberta Jubliee Auditorium.
"I very much liked the dancing. I'm a dancer myself. I'm a costumer… I loved the costuming, and the whole performance. It's not only very professional, it's very moving," she said.
Jakobson, who has been doing ballet since she was 5-years-old is also a singer and a musician. She said that she felt a certain resonance with the performance of the two-stringed Erhu player Qi Xiaochun.
"I very much loved… I don't know the name of the instrument, but it was the woman who played the [Erhu], and I've never heard tones so pure and so beautiful."
She also sang praise for the show's singers. "The tenor, the [baritone] and the soprano singers were excellent as well.
"It was a wonderful performance, an absolutely wonderful performance. I'm very happy I came."
