NEW YORK—The Quitting the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Service Center opened as usual near a library in Flushing, New York on May 22. Attacks against Falun Gong practitioners still continued. Around noon time, police ticketed a middle-aged man for disturbing the peace after he insulted and threw a water bottle at Falun Gong practitioners who were holding a banner that said, "Quit the CCP."
The officer said the man would have to appear in court and have to pay the fine. A middle-age woman also received the same ticket on May 21.
During the past five days, several Falun Gong practitioners have been injured by the angry mob. Police arrested three attackers on May 20 and 21. On Wednesday, out of concern for safety, police arranged a safe place near a local library for Falun Gong adherents to maintain their protest. However, around noon that day an angry mob carrying CCP flags attempted to attack Falun Gong practitioners once more. Police arrested three attackers.

A woman who saw the scene said, "The New York police are partial to Falun Gong adherents." However, another passerby disagreed; "In America, everybody is equal before the law. If a Falun Gong practitioner were to hit others, the police would give him a ticket too. It is bad to incite hatred among people."

Some people felt resentment towards the vicious violence and abuse. Some Chinese democracy advocates came to the scene in support of Falun Gong adherents.
Wu Haoshen from Shanghai said, "It is a group of organized ruffians, shouting slogans and holding red flags. Falun Gong adherents have been providing the service for quitting the CCP in Flushing for many years. They were only attacked during the last few days. It does not make sense."
He continued, "I heard someone over there saying, 'Falun Gong destroyed our activities for collecting money for the earthquake victims and they wish the gods would wipe out China.' That is not true. Everyone can see the banners Falun Gong practitioners are holding. "
Another spectator, Mr. Sun said, "I feel sorrowful for the people killed in the Sichuan earthquake. I think the people should have a right to know earthquake predictions. Two years ago, Gen Qingguo gave an earthquake prediction and warned the Chinese regime that an earthquake could happen in Sichuan."
"On April 30 he sent a warning that included the correct time about the earthquake in a secret telegraph to Wen Jiabao. There seems to be every indication that the CCP hid the truth for the sake of the Olympic torch, which resulted in such a catastrophe in Sichuan. It is intolerable for any civilized society that the same calamity happens again after the Tangshan earthquake 32 years ago. "
As for the CCP's claims of, "Falun Gong adherents are happy about the Sichuan earthquake," Mike Hu, who is working in Flushing pointed out, "Such sayings probably come from someone with an axe to grind."
Hu continued, "I did not see that Falun Gong adherents were against providing disaster relief or gloating over China's disaster. It is an error in logic to talk about the two topics together. Many people are wrong that Falun Gong practitioners were happy about the earthquake, disagreed with sending relief to the disaster area and hoped that China would have bad luck."
"Please take a careful look at their banners—'The Gods bless the Chinese nation.' The Chinese nation includes all Chinese people. So everyone should take a look or they will be fooled again. It is sad for us, the common people, to be fighting each other again as if it was the Cultural Revolution. Our Chinese nation has gone through too many disasters. I hope everyone will finally live a happy life."
