CALGARY, Canada—Suzette, a painter, attended the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular with her son on April 30, at Calgary's Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium.
Suzette said she was overwhelmed by the beauty of the performances, "I loved the show. It was lovely, very precise. The dancing was excellent, all the choreography just flowed and it was just lovely."
Her son said he liked the story telling and legends: "It was quite fun and there was a message to it. The drama of it all was great."
Suzette had difficulty deciding which was her favorite performance, as many appealed to her artistic eye. After some consideration she said: "They had a striking presentation, I think that the drumming was fantastic, that was really exceptional, but I think we enjoyed the whole show. We enjoyed almost every story.
"The dance of the lotus ['The Risen Lotus'] was very beautiful and the water dance ['Nymphs of the Sea']—that was incredible. That was beautiful. It was so visually captivating so it kept your focus, it was really lovely. The way the sea nymphs came out, you know the water screen was always lovely—it was just beautiful aspect of dancing. I like the musicians. It's good quality. It would be nice to see it again sometime."
When asked if she would attend the performance if it came to Calgary again, Suzette beamed: "I hope so. I'll bring more people."
After travelling to over 60 countries on four continents, the New York-based Divine Performing Arts will wind up the Canadian leg of its 2008 international tour with shows in Edmonton from May 5-7.
