CALGARY—"It's amazing, it is incredible, their costumes, the voices, everything. And the choreography is amazing. I'm very, very impressed."
This is how Menia Georgeadis described the Chinese Spectacular which she attended at the Calgary Jubilee Auditorium with friends on Thursday.
Georgeadis said she has been to quite a few performances, but the "spirituality" and "culture" in the Spectacular set it apart from other shows she has seen so far.
"I've never seen anything like this before," said Georgeadis, who works in the accounting department of a home builder company.
Georgeadis' friend, Jackie Gibson, also enjoyed the show and said that she admired how the dancers were so perfectly synchronized.
"The costumes are amazing, really nice. The colours, I think, are what make it very pretty," she said.
Wayne Porter, a recent university graduate, said that the performers' body expressions blend in well with the dances, making it easier to follow the storyline.
"Their facial expressions and everything, it's really easy to understand what's going on," said Porter.
Porter added that he enjoyed the solo performance by soprano Pi-ju Huang.
"I really, really liked her. She was really good."
After traveling to over 60 countries on four continents, the New York-based Divine Performing Arts dance company will wind up its 2008 international tour with one more show in Calgary on Friday and three in Edmonton from May 5 to 7.
