Florida State Representative Yolly Roberson accepted the Torch of Human rights at the Miami Human Rights Torch Relay in Bayfront Park on Saturday, May 10. She then addressed the audience. Her remarks follow:

Today is a great in the state of Florida, it is a wonderful privilege and a great honor for me to stand for those who do not have the freedom to stand here today.

I stand for those in Cuba, in Haiti, Colombia, China, North Korea, Darfur, Vietnam, Burma; all around the world where human rights are not respected, where women's rights are not respected.

I thank the Coalition for putting this together to give visibility to, and to encourage this community to stand together with all of those who are suffering, across the world for human rights

And lets give ourselves a round of applause, because I think it's progress, we have a long way to go. We need Florid to stand with us.

I have to tell you that in the State of Florida we have passed resolutions, to protect human rights in Darfur, in China, in Israel, in Haiti, and in a lot of other places.

And I have to tell you that the entire Florida Legislature stands with me today to fight human rights abuses.

And I promise you, that as long as I am in the Legislature of the State of Florida and as long as I am alive, I will continue to work with my colleagues to make sure that human rights are respected all over the world.

Thank you very much. Keep up the fight! We shall prevail!
