ATLANTA—The High Museum of Art recently installed a 6,680-square-foot "green roof" of tough, colorful sedum plants.
Sedums change color in the sun, ranging from pale green, to bright green to yellow to pinks and reds. They bloom in spring. The hardy succulents are disease resistant and drought tolerant.
Woodruff Arts Center Board of Trustees member David Harris thought of the project, which is meant to reduce storm water runoff, enhance air quality, and protect the roof.
The method is unique, using recycled plastic modules pre-planted with growth medium and plants. Some green roofs use a rubber membrane.
The modular system, called GreenGrid® Green Roof System is a proprietary technology of ABC Supply Co., Inc. licensed exclusively to Weston Solutions, Inc.
