SYDNEY—Families marked Mother's Day in Sydney today by planting trees to celebrate and remember their mums.
Trees for Mum is a national event founded in 2002 by Sydney women Deena Raphael and Lauren Adlam to remember their mothers who both died of cancer.
This year, the City of Sydney council donated 60 native trees to be planted in Embarkation Park at Potts Point, in Sydney's inner-east.
Camilla Lawson, 24, planted a flowering bottlebrush for her mum, who died of cancer six years ago.
"I thought she would love this, it's a really nice idea," she said.
Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore said planting a tree was a perfect way to pay tribute to hard-working mothers.
"By planting a tree, children can watch their tree grow and mature, just like their mothers watch over them," she said.
"And with every tree, we are creating a better environment for all future mothers and their children."
