EDMONTON—On May 7, 2008, the Divine Performing Arts (DPA) had its last show at the Jubilee Theater in Edmonton, Canada. The show attracted a large Chinese audience.
Ms. Sun, currently a certified accountant in Edmonton, immigrated to Canada eight years ago. She was impressed with the Chinese Spectacular, "It's really nice. The costumes were luxurious with brilliant colors that matched well with one another. The backdrop screen was great. The dances were nice as well."
"This was the first time I have seen such a professional performance overseas. Comparing other Chinese New Year performances, this show was superior, no other Chinese shows could compare. This show was obviously more professional with better costume design."
Ms. Sun thought the stories in the Chinese Spectacular were rooted in the long Chinese history, "Chinese history is so long that there are so many legends and stories passed down from the five thousand years of culture. The DPA presented the essence of it."
Ms. Sun thought the DPA propagated the beauty of Chinese culture to Western society, "For a Western audience, things in the form of pure art will allow them to understand China in a positive light. Many of the audience tonight were anglo. They would be interested in the show because after all the show presented a totally different culture in a professional and high class fashion."
"I feel proud of Chinese culture after seeing the show," she concluded at the end.
