CALGARY, Alberta—Len Skowronski, leader of the Alberta Social Credit Party, said he was left with a very positive impression after seeing the Chinese Spectacular on Wednesday evening at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium in Calgary.

"All the costumes were beautiful, the ladies were beautiful; the men were tremendous, athletic, handsome; good performers," he said.

"The drums made you want to become a Tang soldier," added Skowronski, referring to Drummers of the Tang Court, and the finale, Victory Drums, in which dynastic warriors beat a powerful rhythm on Tang drums traditionally used during battle to boost morale and evince power.

Skowronski said he was also impressed by the music in the Spectacular.

"The music, the mix of western and Chinese instruments, that was refreshing. The three singers [Pi-ju Huang, Qu Yue and Hong Ming] had such beautiful, powerful voices. It was very nice. And the ballads, they had that message: truthfulness, compassion, forbearance — that's nice."

Elected leader of the Social Credit Party in 2007, Skowronski has worked in leadership roles in various community organizations in Calgary. He is a third-generation Albertan who has lived in Calgary for many yeas.

After traveling to over 60 countries on four continents, the New York-based Divine Performing Arts dance company will wind up its 2008 international tour with one more show in Calgary on Friday and three in Edmonton from May 5 to 7.
