BRISBANE, Australia—"I really loved the show — I thought it was fantastic," said engineering student Tom Reinhardt at the closing evening of the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular at the Brisbane Convention Centre on Tuesday April 8, 2008, "I really liked that lady on the two stringed violin [Mei Xuan, erhu soloist] and also the singers."

Mr Reinhardt said he was surprised he had enjoyed the singing as he was not usually a fan of operatic singing. "I am sorry I didn't tell more people [about the show]" he said.

Kirsty Way, Tom's partner, said she had not known what to expect either, but would definitely be coming back next year. "The water nymphs ['Nymphs of the Sea'] they were amazing.

"I liked the spring flower dance with the orange flower ['Forsythia in Spring']. I like the way they look like they are on water when they walk.

Ms Way works in finance but enjoys dance and is presently taking ballet lessons.

"They [the dancers] have a lot of skill," she said, "It looks quite hard actually. And I loved the costumes as well – I tried not to watch them."

Jodi Clancy from the medical profession also liked the dance and costumes "It's great, yeah. I really like it. Very, very graceful — excellent, excellent costumes."

When asked what stood out during the evening, Ms Clancy said she felt: "Really relaxed, really appreciative. We had some Chinese people that were sitting next to us and across from us, and they're just — they're having the time of their lives, so it's good. Absolutely!"

Ms Clancy's partner Jack Smith said his favourite was: "The drums." And Ms Clancy added: "All the guys say that.

Drummers for you, but for me, I think it was just the way the women dance with their sleeves flowing; it's just so peaceful. [sighs] Oh, I love it, yes."

In reference to one of the scenes bringing forth the empathy for the suffering of others, Ms Clancy commented:

"Definitely, and definitely what's happening now at the moment, and the fact that we're all here together tonight. There's a lot of bad things going on in the world, but there's also a lot of people who are appreciating other peoples' culture and that's really important."
