BUCHAREST, Romania—As it continues its run in Bucharest, the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular has been captivating audience with is unique portrayal of traditional Chinese culture.
Corneliu and Mihaela Caras, both medical doctors, attended Tuesday's show at the National Theater.
"This is something new for Romania," said Mihaela. "It's the first show of this kind that I'm attending and it's very interesting. It [presents] Chinese culture, Chinese dance, Chinese philosophy.
"The message of the show and the message of the songs is a very uplifting one – it denotes the traditional Chinese spirit of the Chinese people and of those who are still fighting to maintain the traditions and the ancient values of the Chinese people."
Corneliu said he found the Spectacular "very beautiful and nice," adding that he would like to more shows portraying the broad topic of traditional Chinese culture.
"It's very interesting. This is a new show for the Romanian people. Of course, we would like there to be more [shows] so that we can become more familiar [with Chinese culture] because Chinese traditions and ancient Chinese history cannot be [fully] conveyed in two hours.
Maria Nita, an engineer, also thoroughly enjoyed the Spectacular.
"I liked the show very much, very beautiful. When I was much younger I saw a show… and I really wanted to see this interesting symphony of colours and music," she said.
"In fact I want to write to my daughter, who lives in America, about these little dolls (the dancers)… they are like some beings from another world. I really, really liked it. They are dolls that enchant your soul, they go straight to your soul. And the music inspires goodness."
Gabriel Misan, also an engineer, said he likes Italian opera, and the Spectacular reminded him of that. He especially enjoyed the soprano solo by Jiang Min and the Alto solo by Yang Jiangsheng.
"Very interesting. I am interested especially in the vocal aspect – the soprano and the contra-alto and the dance of course because it's the most important."
