BRISBANE—Anita, a Chinese woman from Brisbane, took her husband and two children to the Chinese Spectacular on Tuesday April 8.
Sharing her impressions, Anita said: "I loved all of it, but most of all I think it was the outfits, the music and the dance. Actually, I just enjoyed all of it."
She said she has not seen a Chinese cultural show before. "Not a Chinese one, no. I've seen a long time ago the Siberian dancers, which is sort of another cultural one from Europe as such, but not actual Chinese, no."
She said she enjoyed the Spectacular. "Very professional and the colour and the whole atmosphere is very good. I really liked too, the way that someone came out in between and would sort of let you know what was going to happen with the next item. I found that very useful; also, because of my two small children, I could then explain it to them and let them know what it was all about."
She said she would tell her friends that the Spectacular is "bright, colourful, entertaining, marvellous".
Another Chinese woman, Lydia, was at the show. She was born in Hong Kong, but has lived in Australia since 1950.
She said the show was "immensely interesting".
"I see it as a political message getting through, in that China's oppressed and that they're in search of freedom and the truth for light. I see a heavy Christian message behind it."
She said she has only seen Chinese cultural shows before when she was a child.
She said the Spectacular is "very beautifully presented, very refined and the photography was amazing."
Chinese students Naomi and Naralen enjoyed the fan dances, the drums and the costumes. "It was very interesting, very colourful."
Another Chinese man, Scott Lochran, from Robertson works in IT.
He said the Spectacular was quite a good show. "It shows much about Chinese culture that I did not understand before. It has a number of very beautiful dances. The costumes are very beautiful. It shows the good side of China and a little bit of the bad side, which is very good."
He said because he is male, he liked the drums the most. "It was very good. One of the — I think the lead dancer in the middle — looked very big for the role, managing to keep his eye back and everything. It was quite good to watch."
He lived in China for a few months, but said he had never seen anything like this. "This is a little bit more like the Thailand style, the more freer type style that I've seen."
