BRISBANE, Australia—Prep teacher Sally Maunder felt each performance of the Chinese Spectacular was telling a story and using that story to teach values. "I sort of felt that with the words too; of the two arias sung by the soprano and the baritone," she said after seeing the show at the Brisbane Convention Centre on closing evening Tuesday April 8, 2008.

The melodic quality of the music was a pleasant surprise for Ms Maunder. "I didn't think the music would be as melodic as it was tonight. I wondered if there was any European influence, because it tended to be more melodic than any other [Chinese] music I'd heard. Melody all the way through." She also commented on the costume design and how the fabrics and colours used appear to move with the music.

'Drummers of the Tang Court' was the show favourite for Ms Maunder: "I liked the drumming, because it was spectacular with really strong rhythms." When asked to describe the Chinese Spectacular she said: "It's a sensory experience. The whole senses are being exposed to exquisite colour and sound experiences."
