BRISBANE, Australia—For Coen Yang, an Australian-Chinese lady from the Gold Coast, watching the Chinese Spectacular at the Brisbane Convention Centre on April 8, 2008 was putting her back in touch with her culture.

"Being a Chinese, I don't really know much about my roots, but seeing that was really getting in touch with something," said Coen, after watching the third and last performance on Tuesday night.

Coen was one of many Australians of Asian heritage who found fulfilment in the show's authentic portrayal of classical Chinese culture and values.

Tony and Lyn Jamerson, Lyn an ethnic Vietnamese, also attended the show. Mr Jamerson, an architect by trade, said: "Vietnamese have a similar history and also similar dances ... We love all different cultures and it's such an old culture — I think we can learn a lot from that. I would say if you are a cultural person, go and see it to get some cultural background."

His wife Lyn said she felt messages of "life and loyalty" in the performances.

'It Broadens Your Horizon About Chinese Culture'

Glenn Seeto, a banker born in Papua New Guinea, explained: "Being brought up in Papua New Guinea, that cultural side of things wasn't relayed down to our generation, so I found that interesting.

"I'd recommend [the show] — it broadens your horizon about Chinese culture if you're not familiar with it."
