BUCHAREST, Romania—Continuing on the European leg of its world tour, the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular drew a standing ovation and three curtain calls at its opening show in Bucharest on Monday.
Anna Daniela, who attended the show, said she found the Spectacular "very beautiful".
"Full of color and of course very different from our culture. The costumes, of course, are very beautiful." Daniela said she found out about the show through advertisements and the Internet.
"For children, also, this is a very good show. Indeed, it's a special show," she said.
Ferenc Bokor, an engineer from the town of Targu Mures who works for Madison Advisors Ltd., said the show is "very original for Romania."
"It's the first show of its kind in Romania," said Bokor, adding that he had "a good opportunity" to see the show while he was in Bucharest on business. "I can see that the show has a goal to promote freedom in general or against what the Chinese regime still promotes."
Camelia, who also attended Monday's show, said her daughter, who likes Asian art, gave her a gift of a ticket to the Spectacular because "she knew I would like it."
"I knew that the [Divine Performing Arts] are different, I was expecting to see traditional dances and costumes, and it was very beautiful," said Camelia, a graphic artist.
"I liked very much the colours, they were clean, I mean pure. I liked very much the way they combined them and I liked the way the scenes integrated with the backdrop, and the way of presenting the backdrop."
Camelia added that she had heard about attempts by officials from the Chinese embassy to have the Spectacular cancelled. However, the attempts failed and the show went on as planned, much to Camelia's delight.
"I always wanted to see more traditionals show from many countries. I loved the melodies but I have observed that they had a modern rhythm. Chinese artists are very meticulous, ingenious and conscientious."
