BRISBANE, Australia—Wendy Lethbridge, who visited China "a couple of years ago", had her heart touched by the performances in the Brisbane Convention Centre while watching the Chinese Spectacular on Monday night.
"I liked the dancers with the 'Water Sleeves' — I thought that was lovely. And the soprano singing, I thought was beautiful — she has a lovely voice.
"I read this before it started, so yes, it was good having the English up there [on the screen]," said Mrs Lethbridge who was holding the Divine Performing Arts programme.
"I think it's wonderful; I'm really enjoying it. Some of the movements the dancers make are difficult, aren't they?"
Ms Lethbridge, who is a retired former cattle property manager now living in Brisbane, found out about the event on the Internet. "I loved the music. I'd really like to learn a Chinese instrument, but I can't find anyone in Brisbane to teach me, which is a shame. I really like Chinese music," she said.
During her visit to China, Mrs Lethbridge "learned how Chinese people make do — keep on going", she said: "Which is what this show is saying as well. Whereas Western culture tends to give up a bit more easily, I think. And also [I] learned how little you need to be happy — we have lots of "stuff" and that really struck me in China — how minimalist their culture is."
