BRISBANE, Australia—The president of Amnesty International Queensland, Maree Klemm, said she most liked the drum movements of the Queensland Spectacular.
"The drums got me quite excited," Ms Klemm said after Brisbane's opening show on Tuesday night.
"I just love the really good, loud, thumping-type stuff, the big gongs and the symbols that were in the background music, but the fact that they were actually drumming on stage too was great; it's precision movement."
Ms Klemm also particularly liked the movement 'Nymphs of the Sea'. "The waves, the fans with the blue silk, it constituted the ocean and it was just so suggestive of the waves and the moves.
"Oh, it was just wonderful. I was swept away by it," she said. "The colours, the costumes, the settings, choreography, singing, music, all wonderful."
For Chauntel Woodward, National Development Manager of Bartercard, who are national sponsors of the Spectacular, it was the 'Drummers of the Tang Court' and the Mongolian 'Chopstick Zest' that she most liked.
"[I liked] the drums, the boy drums, where they were moving around and being able to dance with it.
"And also the chopsticks, because you couldn't necessarily tell when they were hitting their body to make the noise. You had to look really, really hard to see.
"It was a great night of culture, elegance and entertainment," Ms Woodward said. "They're very, very elegant, beautiful ladies.
Ms Woodward said she was happy others in her company were seeing the show, too. "I look forward to members all over Australia also enjoying it…so we have a lot more members to go and see the show as well."
Lorraine Fox, a financial planner, had more difficulty highlighting which particular part of the show she liked best.
"It's just a beautiful show," Ms Fox said during interval. "It's beautifully staged and it's just the lovely costumes and the different diversity of the cultures. The whole staging was just beautiful.
"You know, at the beginning where they all descend down and the storytelling, how it's all choreographed. [I] liked 'The Risen Lotus Flower' and the 'Mongolian Bowl Dance' was one of my favourites.
"And the drums, again, just the excitement of the drums and the drumming.
"And I loved the waves, the nymphs and the effect of that with the fans.
"It was just a beautiful show and I'm really enjoying it a lot," Ms Fox said.
