STOCKHOLM, Sweden—Swedish Green Party MP Peter Radberg attended the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular at Stockholm's Circus Theater on March 25.
Together with 26 other MPs representing all political parties in Sweden, Radberg sent greetings to Divine Performing Arts, the New York-based performance company that stages the Spectacular.
Radberg, who has some knowledge of China's ancient traditions and values, said that people used to believe that human beings should live in harmony with nature. In those times, people took care of nature and the environment, but when this traditional culture disappeared, ideas about preserving nature also disappeared.
"I feel that there are many similarities with our ideology and politics [of the Green Party] that one may adopt from the Chinese culture. I recognise it very much and that strengthens the whole thing even more, of course." . However, this was the first time Radberg had seen a Chinese cultural performance of such high calibre.
"The performance was fascinating. To have the opportunity to meet the Chinese culture in this way, in the context of art, I think was exciting," he said.
The piece that made the greatest impression on Radberg was "The Power of Awareness," in which a little girl displays the Chinese characters for truthfulness, compassion and tolerance.
"It was this belonging together, that we have to walk together, and that one believes in goodness and that we can create this together.
"Not that 'alone is strong' but that we do this together. It is very powerful to walk hand in hand somehow. And goodness will win in the end. If one has a little tolerance the goodness will win in the end. That is powerful," he said.
