SYDNEY, Australia—"I thought it was excellent," said singer and teacher, Gillian Kirby after seeing the Spectacular at the Sydney Entertainment Centre Saturday night April 5.
"It was a beautiful display of Chinese culture and all the work they put into it – the choreography, the music. I cannot say enough about it. It was just excellent. I wish all my family was here watching it."
Ms Kirby, said she understood what was involved to make the show such a success and congratulated organisers for their achievement.
"I can really appreciate all the work that has gone into it, and I think the choreographer and the people that have put this show together have to be congratulated. They have done a wonderful job."
She liked all the performances, but confessed that 'Nymphs of the Sea' was a stand-out.
"The item we like best of all before the interval was the sea nymphs. It was quite good.
"The drums were really nice and the way the people were dressed like really nice uniforms. It is great!"
Ms Kirby was with colleagues from a Sydney dance school. Patricia Lanham said they had been discussing the dance techniques and noted how beautifully the dancers moved around the stage. "How graceful – the way the women walk when they are walking off the stage. I was saying that I can't quite see that heel-toe thing, but they are just so beautiful and graceful. Sort of slow floating.
"The whole show is fantastic. Well worth coming too!" Vera Liondas cast a professional eye over the production of the show, but could not pass without commenting on the music.
"I find the backdrop so fascinating, I mean you want to watch the people, but you want to have a look at the backdrop as well. The back drop is very effective. It is a simple slide, but then it comes alive, so it is very effective. Well integrated.
"I was just going to say that the music was so relaxing and tranquil," she said.
Ms Liondas also expressed some wishful thinking about the costumes.
"I was seeing how beautiful the costumes are. They are absolutely fabulous. I wish we could look like that!"
Eleven year old Monica who accompanied teachers was also inspired. "The show was really good and I like the part where they were doing the acrobatics".
