'It's a great insight into Chinese culture'

SYDNEY, Australia—Audience member John Ghetto says he loved the cultural experience of the Sydney Spectacular, after attending Sydney's final show on Saturday evening.

"I think it's a great insight into China's culture," Mr Ghetto said.

"What the white people think [Chinese culture] is all about [is[ fried rice and takeaway, and there's a lot more behind it, considerably more. And you can only understand that once you've seen a show like what we've just witnessed."

Mr Ghetto says he liked the variety of the show. "I wouldn't exactly say the singers were part of the classical dancing, but they certainly give the necessary break in the show," he said. "And that contrast is everything you're looking for when you're constructing a show like this."

"Little pieces of different areas of Chinese culture, even a modern one, so they actually create a contrast, so the audience is entertained all the way.

"Without knowing what was going on, when the drummers came out, I said to my partner: 'they're going to break after that', she said, 'How did you know?' Well, you always finish with a big bang. The drummers were excellent."

Mr Ghetto particularly liked the performers' costumes. "They really go crazy on the costumes, I don't know if they're really traditional costumes, but I assume they are," he said. "Absolutely magnificent."

He also appreciated the introductions and explanation given before each performance, and the use of both English and Chinese language throughout.

"It's important that it's spoken in both languages, because if you have a Chinese explanation to it as well, at least you have a feel for the culture," he said.
