STOCKHOLM, Sweden—Divine Performing Arts returned to the Swedish capital of Stockholm for an encore performance of its acclaimed Chinese Spectacular Thursday evening at Circus Theater.
Aki Partanen, a Washington, D.C.-based IT consultant, decided to see the show while he was in Stockholm after hearing about it from a friend.
"I really enjoyed the music combined with the dance performances. Overall, it was just a fantastic and beautiful show, and everyone appreciated it," he said.
"I really liked the drums the best. … [He also liked] the [erhu] the young lady played. It was lovely."
Partanen also felt that in certain ways the Chinese Spectacular is leading a renaissance of traditional Chinese culture. "I think the clothing [is an indication of the culture]. The clothing maybe [was the most representative of culture]. The background scenery also was an indication of that."
He was asked how he felt about the Chinese Embassy's attempts to derail the show in Sweden.
"I think it's a little bit crazy, being from Scandinavia to stop people from having freedom of expression. This in a way expresses the situation in China, and I hope they get the message through."
Partanen cheerfully summarized his feelings on the show for us, "If you enjoy good art, good music, and cultural experiences. This is a fantastic experience to come and see the show."
"If you care about human rights, this is also a way of supporting that. In [lieu] of the Olympic games in 2008, this is a great issue right now that people are curious about and want to be aware of."
