SYDNEY, Australia—"It's in your body, your mind, and your heart," said Sydney psychologist Salene after watching the Chinese Spectacular at Sydney's Wednesday debut.

"Really, really beautiful," she said. "It made us feel the message that they are saying - for more peace in the world and our behaviour. I don't know how to say it...It's to make us change, make us speak about the world...what we are doing to the world."

She felt that the key message contained within the performances was "to be better, treat each other with more respect, to respect different cultures".

Salene was accompanied by a friend from Poland, who was all-too-familiar with the sorrowful stories of Communist repression.

"I'm from Poland and I was living in communism in Poland for a while, and I know there is communism in China. So I think it's wonderful that you can bring [the Spectacular ] to other countries - to make people think," he said.

When asked to nominate their favourite programme; the reply was that it was the ones about Falun Gong. These performances left Salene, who is originally from Brazil, asking: "Wow, what is this? It's still happening in the world?"

Her friend explained his feelings further, saying: "I think it was really a wonderful experience for everybody, especially for people from other countries. To know more about Chinese culture...about Falun Gong and all these things, it's wonderful."

Another audience member, Erin, echoed these sentiments.

"I thought it was a good time to understand it with Beijing Olympics this year. And it's a country that's demanding lots of attention at the moment - so it's good to learn more about it," she said.

Erin especially enjoyed the 'Nymphs of the Sea', describing it as "beautiful". But most of all, she felt that the Spectacular gave her a deeper understanding of Chinese culture.

"It's very beautiful. It's a beautiful image of a country that I've never been to before. So it really makes me feel closer to understanding the culture, which is lovely. I'm enjoying it very much," she said.
