The world's biggest exhibition of video games and gaming has arrived at Melbourne's innovative Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI).

Game On explores the development of video games – from the first computer games right through to the billion-dollar industry it is today.

"This is the first major exhibition to be held in Australia, and indeed the world, on the vibrant history and culture of video games," Assistant Curator Emma Mayall told The Epoch Times .

"The exhibition opened at the Barbican Art Gallery in London in 2002 and since then, it has travelled extensively in Europe, America and Asia, including Scotland, The Netherlands, Finland, France, Israel, USA and China," she added.

Presented exclusively in Australia at ACMI, Game On is interactive, featuring more than 125 playable games in their original formats, including the classic 1970's arcade games of Pong and Space Invaders , movie-inspired greats such as Goldeneye , as well as some of Australia's best games.

Alongside rarely-seen consoles, controllers, packaging and collectables are fascinating insights into the game development process. Original illustrations by Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto and concept sketches behind classics like Tomb Raider and Grand Theft Auto will delight anyone with an interest in the past, the present or the future of video gaming.

Game On runs until Sunday July 13, 2008.
